THE EFFECT OF INQUIRY BASED LEARNING MODEL ON STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION OF NARRATIVE TEXT ASSISTED BY CANVA APPLICATION AT GRADE XI OF SMA NEGERI 2 TANJUNG BALAI IN 2025/2026 ACADEMIC YEAR

This study aimed to examine the effect of Inquiry-Based Learning assisted by the Canva application on students’ reading comprehension of narrative texts. The research was conducted at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 2 Tanjungbalai using a quantitative research design with a quasi-experimental method. The study involved two groups, namely an experimental class and a control class, applying a pre-test and post-test control group design. The samples were students of classes XI IPS 1 and XI IPS 2, selected through random sampling. Students’ reading comprehension was measured through pre-test and post-test assessments to determine the effectiveness of the Inquiry-Based Learning model. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental class increased significantly from 60.6 in the pre-test to 81.9 in the post-test, while the control class improved from 57.8 to 68.7. The paired sample t-test revealed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a statistically significant improvement within the experimental class. Furthermore, the independent sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, confirming a significant difference between the experimental and control classes. Basedon these findings, it is indicated that Inquiry-Based Learning assisted by the Canva application has a significant and positive effect on students’ reading comprehension of narrative texts.
