URGENSI DEMOKRASI DALAM MEWUJUDKAN TATA KELOLA PEMERINTAHAN YANG BAIK DI INDONESIA

Abstrak

Demokrasi merupakan sistem pemerintahan yang menempatkan rakyat sebagai pemegang kedaulatan tertinggi, dengan menjamin partisipasi publik, kebebasan berpendapat, dan perlindungan hak asasi manusia. Di Indonesia, demokrasi mengalami perkembangan signifikan sejak era reformasi, namun dalam implementasinya masih menghadapi berbagai tantangan seperti politik uang, rendahnya literasi politik, serta lemahnya penegakan hukum. Paper ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji urgensi demokrasi dalam menciptakan tata kelola pemerintahan yang baik (good governance), dengan menekankan prinsip-prinsip dasar demokrasi, korelasinya dengan transparansi dan akuntabilitas, serta upaya konkret untuk memperkuat demokrasi di Indonesia. Melalui pendekatan deskriptif-kualitatif, pembahasan difokuskan pada relevansi demokrasi terhadap efektivitas penyelenggaraan pemerintahan serta pentingnya partisipasi aktif masyarakat dalam proses demokratis. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa demokrasi yang sehat merupakan prasyarat mutlak bagi terwujudnya pemerintahan yang bersih, efisien, dan berpihak kepada rakyat.

Democracy is a system of government that places the people as the highest sovereign, ensuring public participation, freedom of expression, and protection of human rights. In Indonesia, democracy has undergone significant development since the reform era, but its implementation still faces various challenges such as political money, low political literacy, and weak law enforcement. This paper aims to examine the urgency of democracy in creating good governance, emphasizing the fundamental principles of democracy, its correlation with transparency and accountability, as well as concrete efforts to strengthen democracy in Indonesia. Through a descriptive-qualitative approach, the discussion focuses on the relevance of democracy to the effectiveness of government administration and the importance of active community participation in the democratic process. The study's results indicate that healthy democracy is an absolute prerequisite for the establishment of a clean, efficient government that is pro-people.
