REPRESENTASI KELAS SOSIAL DALAM SERIAL TELEVISI THE 8 SHOW EPISODE 1

Abstrak

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi kelas sosial dalam serial televisi The 8 Show episode 1 melalui pendekatan semiotika Roland Barthes. Serial televisi sering menjadi cermin sosial yang menggambarkan kondisi masyarakat, termasuk pembagian kelas sosial yang kompleks. Dengan menggunakan konsep denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos dari Barthes, penelitian ini menguraikan bagaimana simbol dan tanda visual serta verbal dalam The 8 Show merepresentasikan kelas sosial yang berbeda, termasuk atribut, bahasa tubuh, dan gaya hidup karakter. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa simbol-simbol yang dihadirkan menguatkan stereotip kelas sosial tertentu, di mana kelas atas digambarkan sebagai sosok yang berkuasa, eksklusif, dan glamor, sedangkan kelas bawah direpresentasikan dengan kesederhanaan dan keterbatasan ekonomi. Dengan demikian, The 8 Show tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai hiburan tetapi juga sebagai media yang menyampaikan mitos dan pandangan masyarakat tentang struktur kelas sosial. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan pemahaman lebih mendalam tentang pengaruh media televisi terhadap persepsi sosial masyarakat.

This study aims to analyze the representation of social classes in the television series The 8 Show episode 1 through Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. Television series often serve as a social mirror, reflecting the conditions of society, including the complex division of social classes. By employing Barthes' concepts of denotation, connotation, and myth, this research unpacks how visual and verbal symbols and signs in The 8 Show represent different social classes, including attributes, body language, and the lifestyles of its characters. The findings reveal that the symbols presented reinforce stereotypes of certain social classes, with the upper class portrayed as powerful, exclusive, and glamorous, while the lower class is represented through simplicity and economic limitations. Thus, The 8 Show functions not only as entertainment but also as a medium that conveys societal myths and perspectives on social class structures. This study is expected to provide deeper insights into the influence of television media on societal perceptions of social structures.
