DARI INDIA KE SELURUH DUNIA: KISAH SISTEM BILANGAN HINDU-ARAB YANG MENGUBAH PERADABAN

Abstrak

Sistem bilangan Hindu-Arab merupakan salah satu inovasi matematika terbesar yang berkontribusi signifikan terhadap perkembangan peradaban dunia. Artikel ini membahas sejarah dan penyebaran sistem bilangan Hindu-Arab, yang berasal dari India dan kemudian diperkenalkan ke dunia Islam melalui para matematikawan Muslim, seperti Al-Khwarizmi. Studi ini menggunakan metode penelitian kepustakaan dengan mengkaji berbagai sumber literatur terkait perkembangan sistem bilangan ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan angka 0-9 dalam sistem nilai tempat memberikan efisiensi dalam operasi matematika dibandingkan sistem angka sebelumnya, seperti sistem Romawi. Penyebaran sistem ini ke Eropa melalui terjemahan teks Arab ke Latin mendorong kemajuan dalam berbagai bidang, termasuk perdagangan, navigasi, dan sains. Sistem bilangan Hindu-Arab tetap menjadi standar dalam perhitungan modern dan berperan dalam perkembangan teknologi digital.

The Hindu-Arabic number system is one of the greatest mathematical innovations that has contributed significantly to the development of world civilization. This article discusses the history and spread of the Hindu-Arabic number system, which originated in India and was later introduced to the Islamic world through Muslim mathematicians, such as Al-Khwarizmi. This study uses library research methods by examining various literature sources related to the development of this number system. The research results show that the use of the numbers 0-9 in the place value system provides efficiency in mathematical operations compared to previous number systems, such as the Roman system. The spread of this system to Europe through the translation of Arabic texts into Latin encouraged advances in a variety of fields, including trade, navigation, and science. The Hindu-Arabic number system remains the standard in modern calculations and has played a role in the development of digital technology.
