Background: Hypertension is a serious health problem often without symptoms, yet it can lead to severe complications. Obesity and overweight (non-ideal BMI) are major risk factors for hypertension. In Paiton Community Health Center, 365 hypertension patients were recorded 2025, with most being overweight. This study is important to understand the correlation between BMI and hypertension in Paiton Community Health Center. Objective: To determine the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and the level of hypertension in patients at Paiton Community Health Center. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 195 hypertension patients from Paiton Community Health Center, selected randomly. BMI and blood pressure data were collected through direct measurements. Analysis used the Chi-square test to examine the correlation between BMI and hypertension. Results: The majority of respondents were female and elderly. It was found that 61.6% of respondents were overweight (obese or overweight), and 51.3% suffered from hypertension. Statistical test results showed a highly significant relationship between BMI and hypertension (p=0.000). The proportion of hypertension sufferers increased with increasing BMI: 0% in underweight, 29.4% in normal, 69.4% in overweight, and 75% in obese categories. Conclusion: There is a strong and positive relationship between BMI and the incidence of hypertension in Paiton Community Health Center. Overweight and obesity are dominant risk factors. Therefore, weight management is crucial in the prevention and treatment of hypertension in the community.
