PERAN KOMUNIKASI LINGKUNGAN DALAM MENINGKATKAN PARTISIPASI WARGA PADA PENGELOLAAN SAMPAH

(Studi Kasus Di Rt 03/Rw 05 Kelurahan Pasir Jaya, Kecamatan Jatiuwung Kota Tangerang)

Abstrak

This study was conducted based on the phenomenon of suboptimal community involvement in waste management in RT 03/RW 05, Pasir Jaya Subdistrict, Jatiuwung District, Tangerang City. This condition indicates the importance of environmental communication in developing community understanding, awareness, and supporting citizen participation in waste management. This study aims to examine the role of environmental communication in supporting citizen participation and to identify supporting and inhibiting factors in waste management. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with triangulation applied to ensure data validity. The findings indicate that environmental communication contributes to supporting citizen participation through information delivery, socialization, education, direct and interpersonal communication, the use of communication media, and coordination among the subdistrict government, environmental community leaders, and residents. Supporting factors include support from the local government and environmental community leaders, the benefits of waste management programs perceived by residents, as well as awareness and concern for environmental cleanliness. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include limited understanding among some residents, busy schedules and time constraints, inconsistent participation, and limited supporting facilities. Thus, environmental communication plays a role in supporting residents’ understanding and involvement in waste management in RT 03/RW 05, Pasir Jaya Subdistrict, Jatiuwung District, Tangerang City
