Growing public awareness of skin health and protection has increased the need for a data-driven monitoring system for Ultraviolet (UV) exposure and skin temperature. Excessive UV exposure risks premature aging, hyperpigmentation, and other skin disorders, while skin surface temperature can indicate physiological responses to the environment. Current skin-protection practices still largely rely on subjective estimation without integrated quantitative measurement. This study aims to design and realize BeautyGuard, an IoT-based monitoring system for UV exposure and skin temperature capable of providing real-time skin-protection recommendations through a rule-based mechanism. The system uses an ESP32 microcontroller as the control center, receiving data from a GY-ML8511 ultraviolet sensor and an MLX90614 non-contact temperature sensor, with measurement results and recommendations displayed on a 0.96-inch I2C OLED screen. The research method includes a literature review, collection of UV index and skin temperature threshold data, hardware and software design, sensor accuracy and system response-time testing, and analysis of the resulting recommendation's suitability. Preliminary test results show the UV sensor detected exposure variation in the range of 1.5–5.1 during measurements from 09:00 to 17:00 WIB, with a system detection time of 1.1–1.4 seconds and a recommendation display time of 1.8–2.5 seconds, both within the maximum 3-second response-time target. The rule-based recommendation system successfully produced five levels of skin-protection advice based on combinations of measured UV and temperature values. The resulting BeautyGuard prototype — portable, self-contained (a standalone embedded system), and applicable — has potential as a practical tool in the cosmetology and beauty-care field for determining skin-protection actions based on objectively measured environmental exposure conditions.
