Abstrak

Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia yang Disempurnakan (EYD)" Edisi ke-5, sebagai pedoman ejaan resmi bahasa Indonesia, diterbitkan oleh Badan Pengembangan dan Pembinaan Bahasa pada 16 Agustus 2022. Dokumen ini menjelaskan fungsi ejaan sebagai panduan penulisan yang menjamin keteraturan, norma, dan keseragaman bahasa tertulis, serta menelusuri sejarah perkembangan ejaan Indonesia mulai dari ejaan Van Ophuijsen, ejaan Republik, EYD, PUEBI, hingga EYD Edisi ke-5. Bahan ini juga memaparkan secara rinci dasar hukum dan alasan mengembalikan nama EYD, serta menjabarkan tujuh tahapan revisi yang meliputi penambahan dan perubahan aturan, revisi redaksi, dan sistematisasi pedoman. Ruang lingkup penerapan EYD Edisi ke-5 dijelaskan meliputi penggunaan huruf, ejaan kata, tanda baca, serta penanganan kata serapan disertai contoh-contoh penerapannya. Perbedaan antara EYD Edisi ke-5 dan PUEBI, dampaknya terhadap revisi Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI), implikasinya bagi dunia pendidikan, serta penerapan dalam penulisan makalah ilmiah dibahas secara komprehensif. Melalui bahan ajar ini diharapkan pengguna bahasa Indonesia dapat memahami dan menerapkan aturan EYD Edisi ke-5 dengan tepat, sehingga penggunaan bahasa Indonesia yang sesuai konteks tetap terjaga.

The “Improved Indonesian Spelling (EYD)” 5th Edition, as the official spelling guide for the Indonesian language, was published by the Language Development and Guidance Agency on August 16, 2022. This document explains the function of spelling as a writing guide that ensures consistency, standards, and uniformity in the written language, and traces the history of the development of Indonesian spelling, starting from the Van Ophuijsen spelling system, the Republic spelling system, EYD, PUEBI, up to the 5th Edition of EYD. This material also details the legal basis and rationale for reinstating the name EYD, and outlines the seven stages of revision, which include the addition and modification of rules, editorial revisions, and the systematization of the guidelines. The scope of application of the 5th Edition of EYD is explained to include the use of letters, word spelling, punctuation, and the handling of loanwords, accompanied by examples of their application. The differences between the 5th Edition of EYD and PUEBI, its impact on the revision of the Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI), its implications for the world of education, and its application in writing scientific papers are discussed comprehensively. Through this teaching material, it is hoped that users of the Indonesian language can understand and apply the rules of the 5th Edition of EYD correctly, so that the context-appropriate use of the Indonesian language is maintained.
