This study aims to compare the performance of two classification methods, K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM), in identifying the ripeness level of mangosteen based on digital images. The classification process focuses on the color characteristics of the fruit’s outer skin, which serve as the primary visual indicator of ripeness. The research stages include image acquisition, preprocessing, color model conversion, and feature extraction using RGB and HSV representations. The dataset is divided into training and testing sets to evaluate the generalization capability of each method. Performance evaluation is conducted using accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and computational time. The results indicate that SVM demonstrates more consistent and accurate performance than KNN in classifying ripeness levels. These findings highlight the potential of combining digital image processing and machine learning techniques to support automated and efficient fruit sorting systems. Furthermore, this study can serve as a reference for the development of decision-support tools in smart agriculture, particularly for applications that require fast and objective fruit quality identification.
