Leverage diukur menggunakan Debt to Equity Ratio (DER) dan Debt to Asset Ratio (DAR), sedangkan kinerja keuangan diproksikan melalui Return on Assets (ROA) dan Return on Equity (ROE).
This study aims to analyze the effect of leverage on the financial performance of export companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the period 2019–2023. Leverage is measured using the Debt to Equity Ratio (DER) and Debt to Asset Ratio (DAR), while financial performance is proxied through Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE). The research population comprises 87 export companies listed on the IDX, with 52 companies selected as samples using purposive sampling. Data analysis was conducted using panel data regression with the Random Effects Model (REM) selected based on the Hausman Test. The results indicate that DER has a significant negative effect on ROA (β = -0.142; p < 0.01) and ROE (β = -0.211; p < 0.01). Similarly, DAR has a significant negative effect on ROA (β = -0.189; p < 0.05) and ROE (β = -0.253; p < 0.05). These findings suggest that excessive use of debt in export companies tends to reduce profitability, supported by trade-off theory and pecking order theory.
