DIALEKTIKA ANTARA WELAS ASIH VS UJARAN KEBENCIAN DAN KEKERASAN PADA NARASI FILM “PENGEPUNGAN DI BUKIT DURI”

Abstrak

Film merupakan media komunikasi audio visual yang tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai hiburan, tetapi juga memiliki kekuatan untuk menyampaikan pesan moral dan sosial kepada khalayak. Salah satu film yang memuat pesan penting tersebut adalah “Pengepungan di Bukit Duri” karya Joko Anwar. Film ini dipilih sebagai objek penelitian karena mengangkat tema yang relevan dengan isu sosial saat ini, yakni ujaran kebencian dan tindakan kekerasan yang berakar dari diskriminasi etnis, serta nilai welas asih sebagai bentuk perlawanan terhadap kebencian tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana dialektika antara welas asih dan ujaran kebencian serta kekerasan direpresentasikan melalui karakter dalam film tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Struktur Naratif Vladimir Propp yang menganalisis fungsi dan peran karakter dalam narasi, seperti pahlawan, penjahat, penderma, dan penolong. Peneliti menerapkan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik studi kepustakaan dan dokumentasi terhadap adegan dan peran fungsi karakter pada film untuk memperoleh pemahaman mendalam mengenai pola naratif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat enam dari tujuh ruang lingkup fungsi karakter dalam teori Propp yang digunakan dalam film ini, di mana karakter Edwin sebagai pahlawan merepresentasikan welas asih, sedangkan karakter Jefri sebagai antagonis merepresentasikan kebencian dan kekerasan. Temuan ini memperlihatkan bahwa film dapat menjadi sarana refleksi terhadap realitas sosial yang kompleks dan penuh konflik.

Film is an audio-visual communication medium that not only functions as entertainment, but also has the power to convey moral and social messages to the audience. One of the Films that contains this important message is "Pengepungan di Bukit Duri" by Joko Anwar. This Film was chosen as the object of research because it raises a theme that is relevant to current social issues, namely hate speech and acts of violence rooted in ethnic discrimination, as well as the value of compassion as a form of resistance to this hatred. This study aims to determine how the dialectic between compassion and hate speech and violence is represented through the characters in the Film. This study uses Vladimir Propp's Narrative Structure theory which analyzes the functions and roles of characters in the narrative, such as Heroes, Villains, donors, and Helpers. The researcher applies a descriptive qualitative approach with literature study techniques and documentation of the scenes and roles of character functions in the Film to gain an in-depth understanding of the narrative pattern. The results of the study show that there are six of the seven scopes of character functions in Propp's theory used in this Film, where the character Edwin as a Hero represents compassion, while the character Jefri as an antagonist represents hatred and violence. These findings show that Films can be a means of reflection on complex and conflict-filled social realities.
